Mikel Arteta has now shared whether Kai Havertz will be Arsenal's striker this season

Mikel Arteta has responded to questions asking if Kai Havertz will be the number nine for Arsenal this season.

Arsenal will have the sole ambition of winning the Premier League title this season after narrowly missing out to Manchester City last term.

Many feel to bridge the gap on City, Arteta needs to invest in a prolific centre-forward and there have been a number of links to a couple on the continent.

With that said, the Spaniard has now responded to questions asking if he’ll persist with Havertz as his striker.

Mikel Arteta remains coy in answer

Speaking to ESPN, Mikel Arteta kept his cards pretty close to his chest when asked if he would continue to play Havertz as a number nine or if he’d bring in a specialist striker.

“He has played mainly in two positions, as an attacking midfielder and as a nine, and yeah, he ended the season really strongly in that position,” Arteta said

“But he offers a lot of versatility and we have players up front that can in different positions, and that’s great. That brings more competition, more options, and hopefully more goals and better team.”

Arsenal need to sign a specialist striker

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Viktor Gyokeres, who ripped it up at Sporting Lisbon last year.

The Sweden international netted a whopping 43 times whilst laying on 15 assists, putting a number of clubs around the continent on red alert.

If they were to meet his £86m price tag and land his signature this summer, it’d put them in a much stronger position to pip City to the title.
