The Brazil international opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the 10th minute as Mikel Arteta’s side went on to score four more in an impressive first half. Gabriel also won the penalty in first-half injury time which was converted by Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal centre-back was punched in the head by West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. Gabriel looked dazed as he got to his feet and was then replaced by Jakub Kiwior at the half-time break. Speaking after Arsenal’s win, Arteta revealed that Gabriel’s substitution was not due to concussion but was related to the injury he suffered in the 5-1 win away to Sporting CP in the Champions League on Tuesday.
