Moshiri agrees deal in principle for Everton sale, new owner expected to pass PL test - report

Farhad Moshiri has agreed a deal in principle to sell his majority stake in Everton to Dan Friedkin, according to iNews.

The newspaper reported on Saturday (15 June, page 95) that Moshiri is set to “imminently” grant exclusivity to the US billionaire, who also owns AS Roma.

It is understood that Moshiri had four other serious offers for his 94 per cent Everton shareholding but Friedkin has made an all-equity offer to add the Merseyside club to his ownership group.

iNews adds that Friedkin wouldn’t encounter any problems when passing the Premier League’s owners and directors test.

Everton takeover takes major step in right direction

From the shadiness of 777 Partners to a US billionaire who has successfully run one of the biggest clubs in Italy for four years.

Roma may not have finished above sixth in Serie A during Friedkin’s time at the Stadio Olimpico but they have won the UEFA Conference League, reached the Europa League semi-finals twice and also finished as runners-up in 2022/23 when they lost to Sevilla on penalties. Under Friedkin’s ownership, the Italian club has also been able to attract players like Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti and Tammy Abraham.

Everton have been in trouble in the last few years and we dread to think what kind of depths they would have sunk to if 777 managed to somehow complete a takeover of the club.

Fortunately, from the very beginning, that takeover looked doomed and Sean Dyche managed to survive the season with the Blues still in the Premier League despite two points deductions.

Friedkin won’t be able to come in and start throwing money at the first team in order to improve things. Players will still have to leave due to PSR.

However, it seems as though the long-term future of the club will be a lot safer in his hands.

In other Everton news, the Blues have received a transfer approach from Arsenal.
