Mourinho could force Man United to sack Ten Hag - O'Rourke

Jose Mourinho is relishing the opportunity to compound the misery on Erik ten Hag and his former club Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that it could be the ‘end of the road’ for Ten Hag, 54, if he loses to Mourinho, 61, next Thursday in their Europa League clash with Fenerbahce.

Man United will travel to Istanbul for the third game of their Europa League campaign following disappointing draws against Dutch side FC Twente and FC Porto in the previous rounds.

The games against Brentford and the Turkish giants are understood to be pivotal for Ten Hag as the Duchman clings onto his job following their dismal start to the season.

Ten Hag has overseen Man United’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season, with the 20-time champions wallowing in 14th.

Since leaving Manchester United in 2018, no manager has surpassed Mourinho’s points total of 81 achieved in the 2017-18 season.

The Dutchman’s job has been made all the harder with ten first-team players currently on the sidelines through injury.

While Ten Hag has secured silverware in both of his seasons at Old Trafford, securing the League Cup during his first season and the FA Cup last campaign, his league form continues to be a point of criticism.
