St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie will need luck to be on his side if he is to take over the reins as the new Rangers Chief Executive, David Edgar believes.

The Heart and Hand podcast host has offered Gillespie the best of wishes as the Scottish Sun reported on 17 August that he will be replacing James Bisgrove.

The 46-year-old is understood to be a Gers fan and is an award-winning CEO.

Edgar wrote on X: “If it is him, best of luck. He’ll need it.”

Jim Gillespie appears to be a quality appointment for Rangers

Gillespie’s background as an award-winning CEO of a care charity, combined with his boardroom experience at St Mirren, suggests he brings a blend of corporate acumen and football understanding to the role, crucial for navigating the complexities of running a major football club.

His familiarity with the Scottish football landscape, having been a director at St Mirren, could facilitate smoother operations and negotiations within the league.

Moreover, being a lifelong Rangers fan adds a layer of passion and commitment to his role, potentially aligning his vision with the club’s ethos and fan expectations.

This move also signals stability at a time when Gers have faced managerial changes and operational challenges, like the issues with Ibrox’s redevelopment.

Gillespie’s appointment could help in restoring fan confidence, especially after the departure of Bisgrove, by offering a steady hand in leadership during a transitional period for the club.

Hopefully, he can get started as soon as possible and he can shape the club in his image and take them forward.

In other Rangers news, the club are now sparking a bidding war to sell a first-team player for more money before the transfer deadline.
