McManus mocks Rangers after Hampden footage v St Johnstone emerges

Tam McManus has mocked Rangers for their post-match celebrations after their win against St Johnstone.

The Gers secured their second win of the new season at Hampden Park as Cyriel Dessers and Ross McCausland confirmed a 2-0 League Cup second-round win.

After the final whistle, the players celebrated with supporters, linking arms and bouncing up and down.

Former Hibernian and Dundee forward McManus has slammed the Light Blues for these scenes via X on 17 August.

He said: “Can only imagine what guys like John Greig, Richard Gough and Barry Ferguson must be thinking watching this. It’s St Johnstone at home in the 2nd round of the league cup.”

Rangers slammed for St Johnstone celebrations

Despite being just four games into a new season, Philippe Clement’s side have already come under pressure for their performances.

This reached its peak after the Gers were knocked out of the Champions League in the first qualifying round against Dynamo Kyiv.

The frustration of this is behind them now and thanks to a round of 16 League Cup win against St Johnstone.

To see supporters and the players celebrating together is good to see given the disconnect between them in recent weeks.

With that being said, it is a bit much to be celebrating an early-round cup tie win by bouncing around with supporters after the full-time whistle.

There are always going to be fans who are for and against this sort of behaviour but for the first time in a while, there is some positivity surrounding the club.

Now Clement’s side will prepare to welcome Ross County to Hampden next week, hopeful of another win.
