Nelson Semedo sends message to Mario Lemina after Wolves bust-up

Nelson Semedo has insisted he and Mario Lemina will lead Wolves together after replacing his teammate as club captain.

Lemina was involved in a scuffle with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, as well as his own coach Shaun Derry, after his side’s 2-1 defeat to the Hammers that leaves them deep in a relegation battle.

In the aftermath, manager Gary O’Neil confirmed that the midfielder has been stripped of the captaincy with Semedo taking over the role ahead of a huge clash with Ipswich on Saturday (14 December).

With Lemina then taking to Instagram to say “you know everything” to his teammate in that new role, the defender has quickly responded to his former skipper.

Sharing the midfielder’s post on his own Instagram story, the former Barcelona man then added the caption: “We got each other back brother always you know that. We lead together.”

Wolves need united ahead of crucial Ipswich clash

Football Insider Opinion

This weekend sees the latest huge game for O’Neil and his side as they host another struggling side in Ipswich, in a game they will surely be targeting for a much-needed win.

Indeed, victory over the Tractor Boys could help to lift some of the pressure on their beleaguered manager after such a poor start to the campaign.

A show of unity such as this therefore ought to be welcomed by those at Wolves as they look to pick up a big three points in the battle to avoid relegation.

With everything that has already gone on recently, they will no doubt be desperate to avoid any more unwelcome distractions.

The fact that Semedo and Lemina are, in public at least, on the same page should help to reduce the possibility of that being an issue for at Molineux.

Given what is already at stake for him, O’Neil will now hope that this big call pays off for him with results on the pitch this weekend and beyond.

In other news, a former West Ham manager has already turned down the chance to take over at Wolves.
