Dominic Calvert-Lewin could still leave Everton before the transfer window closes on 30 August, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Everton could be forced into the transfer market if they lose their number nine in the closing days of the window.
Calvert-Lewin, 27, has been heavily linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer after entering the final year of his contract.
Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Everton are braced for late offers as both Newcastle United and West Ham remain strongly interested in his signature.
Clubs in Europe are also keeping a close eye on his situation.
The Toffees, meanwhile, have been linked with moves to sign Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Chelsea forward Armano Broja, but are not prioritising a deal unless another forward leaves.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit still on cards as Everton weigh up replacement options
Calvert-Lewin’s form in front of goal has been disappointing for Everton, and contributed to the team scoring the second-least Premier League goals last time out.
He has found the net just nine times from 49 appearances in the last two league seasons.
The striker’s fitness issues have also raised red flags for potential suitors, although his 38 appearances last season suggest he has put the worst of his injuries behind him.
His departure would leave Sean Dyche with just Beto and Neal Maupay to choose from up front – neither of whom have proven to be clinical forwards.
As a result, the scouting team are assessing their options in case of a late exit.
Nketiah and Broja would both cost too much for Everton to afford at this time, but sources say they could explore loan moves in the closing stages of the window.
The recruitment team at Goodison Park have been considering a move to sign a new striker since the window opened, but have prioritised deals elsewhere.
Dyche remains keen on bringing a new midfielder and another winger to the club before 31 August, but could be forced to sign a new forward if Calvert-Lewin leaves.
In other news, Man United will re-open talks to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
