Newcastle fans wowed by 'Paul Mitchell revolution' as new signing agreed

Newcastle fans were caught by surprise after the club confirmed the signing of Georgian sensation Vakhtang Salia on Tuesday (October 29).

The 17-year-old signed for an undisclosed fee and will stay at his boyhood club, Dinamo Tbilisi, until his 18th birthday in August 2025, at which point he will officially become a Newcastle player.

Salia made his debut for Dinamo Tbilisi back in November 2023 and has gone on to score seven goals and provide two assists in 32 appearances for the club.

The striker has also represented his country at the Under-17, Under-19, and Under-21 levels but is yet to receive a senior call-up from manager Willy Sagnol.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in signing the youngster with Newcastle United Sporting Director Paul Mitchell saying in their statement, “We’re delighted to get ahead of a number of other top clubs to sign Vakhtang.”

Hailing from the same academy that has produced superstars like Giorgi Mamardashvili and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Salia has big boots to fill.

Excited by their latest signing, Newcastle fans took to X, formally known as Twitter, to praise the club and Mitchell for getting it done.
