Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed it is unlikely West Ham star Mohamed Kudus will face a further ban for violent conduct.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – hit back at ex-referee Mike Dean for his claim on the incident against Tottenham earlier in October.
Kudus opened the scoring away at Tottenham on 19 October but was sent off in the second half for violent conduct as West Ham collapsed to lose 4-1.
He was sent off for pushing Micky van de Ven in the face, but was hit with a further charge from the FA for swiping at Pape Matar Sarr.
Former referee Mike Dean claimed Kudus faces two bans for violent conduct, meaning he could be sidelined until mid-December.
A six-game ban would see the Ghana international miss clashes against Nottingham Forest, Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal and Leicester – in addition to the Man United clash he has already missed.
West Ham star Kudus ‘not likely’ to face further ban, says Wyness
However, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think a six-game ban is likely at all.
“I think Mike Dean has got the wrong end of it. I know it was a serious situation, but it’ll come to three or four games maximum.
“Kudus lost his temper, it happens in the heat of a game. There was no serious injuries so we’ve got to look at it in that light.”
The forward has scored twice in eight Premier League games for West Ham this term.
Kudus’ ban comes with Julen Lopetegui’s side sitting 13th in the table, picking up just 11 points from a possible 27 this term.
