Newcastle United’s owners have injected £35million into the club in the form of a new share issue, sources have told Football Insider.

A Companies House submission published on Tuesday (19 November), backdated to 30 October, revealed £35million was paid into the club for one new allotted share.

It’s so far unclear whether the new cash injection will go towards covering the operating costs at St James’ Park or potentially contribute to the transfer budget heading into January.

It isn’t the first investment of this nature Newcastle’s owners have made this year after Football Insider revealed in April they had pumped £37million into the club in a similar transaction.

The north-east giants were close to breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) last season, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Eddie Howe’s side were forced to sell Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for £30million and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for £35million before the 30 June accounting deadline to help them avoid a potential points deduction.

The Tynesiders were also restricted in terms of incomings they could make over the summer, having only signed Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy on permanent deals.

Newcastle want rule change after progress blocked

Newcastle have largely seen their progress blocked since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) bought the club alongside the Reuben Brothers and PCP Capital Partners in a £305million deal in October 2021.

But that could soon change if Manchester City manage to successfully unwind the Premier League’s associated party transaction (APT) rules following their recent legal battle.

After a two-week private arbitration hearing took place in June, the independent panel deemed two aspects of the rules were unlawful.

Newcastle were joined by Everton and Chelsea in acting as witnesses for the English champions in the case, while Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Brighton and West Ham provided evidence for the Premier League.

Top-flight sides are now set to vote on new proposals put forward by the governing body on 22 November, with Man City believed to be urging other clubs to reject the league’s suggestions.

Football Insider revealed on 7 November any significant changes to the rules will give Newcastle more flexibility to spend heavily by agreeing sponsorship deals with parties linked to their ownership group.
