The Nigeria Football Federation have appointed El Kanemi coach Aliyu Zubairu as the new coach of the Under-20 male team, the Flying Eagles, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Flying Eagles have been without a coach since Ladan Bosso left the job at the end of the African Games in March this years.
Few weeks ago, there were few reports that Bosso would continue with the job, but those talks were eventually binned after Nigeria Premier Football League side Bayelsa United confirmed they had appointed him as their coach.
Now in a new development, per OgaNla media, the NFF have appointed Zubairu as the new coach of the Flying Eagles. The NFF made the decision after a recommendation from the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Zubairu’s first assignment is to prepare the team for the upcoming WAFU B Under-20 Championship slated for October and November this year. He will be looking to put up a strong showing in those games.
Following Zubairu’s appointment, he is expected to leave his job at El Kanemi, who played out a goalless draw against Enugu Rangers in the opening game of the Nigeria Premier Football League last Saturday.
It will be a big loss for El Kanemi as Zubairu led them to the Federation Cup title last season.
Before El Kanemi, Zubairu had stints at Gombe United and Wikki Tourists.
