Nils Koopen has claimed that Rangers should take the “brave” decision to sell Jefte should they receive a reasonable offer and back themselves to find a replacement.

Jefte only joined Rangers in June 2024 but has hit the ground running having featured in five of the club’s seven league fixtures, with several top performances.

Koppen, director of football at Rangers, explained how the club need to approach situations should interest arise in their key players.

In an interview with Rangers Review (15 October), Koppen said: “If we have a player like Jefte who is doing well and the right offer comes in, we should sell him and be brave enough to say that we can find the next one.”

Rangers need to improve, not decline

Rangers currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind both Aberdeen and Celtic having played the same number of games.

Whilst the time to sell players will always inevitably come, the Gers can’t afford to consider it whilst performance levels are already below what is expected.

Jefte has been a crucial player for the Gers so far this season, averaging a match rating of 7.24 according to FotMob and selling him would potentially look good financially, but would also more than likely disrupt any positives on the pitch.

It’s easier said than done replacing players as well, whilst it is entirely possible Ranges could sell Jefte and replace him with a portion of the money whilst retaining the quality, it is also very possible that wouldn’t be the case at all and it is a very fine line to be walking.

Rangers need to kick on this season or risk slipping even further away from winning their first title since 2021.

In other Rangers news, Ross McCausland was absent from the Northern Ireland squad due to injury as they were held to a goalless draw against Belarus on Saturday 12 October.
