Noel Gallagher slams Everton figures in Manchester City takeover admission

Noel Gallagher has directed a dig at the Everton ownership after comparing the chaos at Goodison Park to that of Manchester City before their famous 2008 takeover.

In an interview with The Athletic [11 June], lifelong Man City supporter Gallagher detailed how he uses Everton as an example to his son when he asks how City used to operate before the club arrived into the hands of the Abu Dhabi United Group 16 years ago, claiming over 20 honours since.

The opening quotes of Daniel Taylor’s article set the tone for Gallagher’s unapologetic viewpoint on fellow Premier League clubs, as the world-renowned musician scathes Everton and Farhad Moshiri despite the 115 financial charges looming over the Etihad Stadium.

“When I explain it to Sonny, my youngest lad, I think the perfect analogy is: ‘If you want to know what it used to be like, look at Everton’,” Gallagher began.

“If City hadn’t been bought by Sheikh Mansour, it would have been takeover after takeover, all sorts of f***wits coming in, failure and broken promises.

“I look at Everton at the bottom of the league, points deductions, and I think: ‘There but for the grace of God go us’. Because that would have been us, or possibly even worse.”

Everton continue hunt for best buyer option

With multiple offers on the table to take over Everton from Moshiri, the Toffees’ majority owner must find the best solution and fast.

Following a farcical eight months of the enforced stand-off by the Premier League in 777 Partners proceeding with an acquisition of Moshiri’s 94.1-per-cent stake in the club, alternatives to explore include Roma owner Dan Friedkin, and supporter duo Andy Bell and George Downing.

Bell and Downing already maintain a working relationship with Moshiri which could prove crucial, alongside the belief that the Premier League would approve their bid.

Farhad Moshiri must make a decision on an Everton buyer quickly

US-based Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor has confirmed to Goodison News that he has never been a frontrunner in the process, with a 45-per-cent stake still existing in Crystal Palace.

Moshiri is under pressure to make a decision promptly for hurdles to be cleared.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche could be handed a boost on the player sales front.
