NPFL: Super Eagles star shines as perfect Remo Stars claim first-ever away win over Kano Pillars

Remo Stars achieved a significant milestone with a commanding 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday three clash on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

This historic win at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium is Remo Stars’ first-ever away triumph over the former league champions.

Coming into the encounter, Remo Stars had never tasted victory in three previous league visits to Pillars, recording two losses and one draw.

However, with momentum on their side following two straight wins, the Ikenne-based side approached the game with confidence under the guidance of interim Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede.

The visitors set the tone early, controlling the tempo and creating chances.

Their dominance paid off in the 26th minute when Super Eagles star Ismail Sadiq found the back of the net.

Sadiq’s excellent finish was his second goal of the season, following his earlier strike in Remo Stars’ opening day 2-0 win against Abia Warriors.

A versatile full-back, Sadiq, it would be recalled, made his senior national team debut in June during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Benin Republic.

Kano Pillars struggled to break down Remo Stars’ defence and were punished further when Togolese forward Kwame Mawuena doubled the lead on the hour mark.

Pillars had no response, and the Sky Blue Stars cruised to a memorable victory.

The result catapults Remo Stars to the top of the NPFL table with a perfect record of three wins from three matches, five goals scored, and none conceded.

In other NPFL fixtures on Sunday, Niger Tornadoes secured a 2-1 away win over Plateau United, while Heartland played a goalless draw with Katsina United in Owerri.

Sunshine Stars and Abia Warriors also shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate in Akure.
