Chris Sutton has backed Sean Dyche to win the Premier League Manager of the Season after developments at Everton.
After a slow start to the Premier League campaign, the Toffees moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October) thanks to goals from Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane.
While there is still plenty of football to be played this term, BBC Sport pundit Sutton has backed Dyche to keep the Toffees up and potentially win an award in the process of doing so.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (21 October, 42:50) he said: “Ian Ladyman loves putting the boot into Everton, it may be why he’s gone away for a week because they’re now on fire.
“Sean Dyche could be manager of the season as far as I can see after the last couple of results so it’s good to see Everton doing well. I had faith in them.”
Will Sean Dyche exit Everton amid Goodison Park sack speculation?
It is amazing just how quickly things can change in football. It was only a matter of weeks ago that pundits and fans alike were suggesting Dyche could be at risk of the sack, particularly with an ownership change looming.
But as Sutton suggests, the Toffees have been “on fire” in recent games and looked like a team reborn at Goodison Park. While some of the credit has to go to the players, the manager and his coaching staff deserve an awful lot of praise.
Whether Dyche’s work at Goodison Park will be enough to push him into contention for the Manager of the Year award only time will tell.
There is still a lot of work to be done between now and the end of the season and there is no guarantee the former Burnley boss will even be in charge on Merseyside when the campaign comes to an end.
Hopefully, this good run of form will continue over the coming months and fears of relegation will become a distant memory.
