'Once a Rangers player…' - Darrell Currie reacts as pundit 'Slaughtered' at Aberdeen game

Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton has shared that he was getting “slaughtered” by Aberdeen fans after their win at Ross County on 31 August.

Speaking on Premier Sports with Darrell Currie (4 September), Hutton described what happened when Aberdeen fans ran onto the Victoria Park pitch after Kevin Nisbet’s winning goal in the 98th minute.

The ex-Gers right-back was surprised by the apparent abuse, as Aberdeen moved five points clear of the Bears into second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Hutton said: “I was hiding – I was getting dogs abuse by the way. I don’t know why, I left years ago and I’m still getting it off the fans.

“They all started running on, and I went – ‘oh no, I better hide’ – because I was getting absolutely slaughtered.”

Currie replied: “Once a Rangers player when you’re back at Aberdeen…”

Rangers risk falling behind in-form Premiership’s top two sides

While Hutton was surprised to be receiving the abuse from Aberdeen fans in the wake of their last-gasp win at Ross County, it’s hardly surprising to see their fans sticking the boot into Rangers.

While Philippe Clement’s new-look side has stuttered with an opening-day draw and a 3-0 thrashing by Celtic either side of two wins, Aberdeen have won four from four and sit joint-top of the table.

That’s seen both the two sides open up a five-point gap above the Light Blues going into the first international break, with Clement’s men also trailing Dundee United by a point as well.

It’s highly unlikely that Aberdeen and Celtic – particularly the former – continue their perfect starts to the season for much longer, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Gers already have ground to make up.

Unless Clement can integrate all of his new signings straight away and turn his side’s inconsistent form around, Hutton may have to get used to being in the firing line from many an opposition fan.

In other Rangers news, Jo Potter’s Rangers Women side have prepared for a must-win European clash in the best way possible.
