Confirmed: Player had doubts about Rangers transfer, made last-minute decision after talks

Robin Propper had some doubts before he secured a permanent transfer to Rangers, according to Twente Enschede chief Arnold Bruggink.

He claims that the 30-year-old initially wanted to stay at the Dutch side and play in Europe with them, having played a crucial role in getting them there.

However, his agent then called Bruggink late in the day and despite holding last-minute talks with the centre-back, he opted to leave.

He said, via the Scottish Sun: “I was standing in the back garden on Sunday evening and Robin Propper’s agent called me at a quarter to ten in the evening.

“I ended up speaking a lot with Robin after that.

“He had a lot of doubts at the beginning because he had finally got the opportunity to play in Europe with Twente and that was always his ambition.

“Only right in the end did he choose to go.

“It was a blow because I hoped he would never leave, but you have to anticipate that in football.”

Robin Propper has had a slow start to life at Rangers

Propper’s transfer to Gers, despite his initial hesitations and a slow start at the club, underscores the importance of patience from fans and the club’s management.

Transitioning to a new league, particularly one as demanding as the Scottish Premiership, can be challenging, requiring time for adaptation both culturally and tactically.

The 30-year-old’s previous success with Twente, where he played a pivotal role in achieving European football, indicates his quality to contribute significantly once settled.

His decision to move suggests a belief in his ability to thrive in a new environment, which might take time to materialise due to differences in playing style, team dynamics, and personal adjustment to a new country.

Given his experience and ambition, fans should give the centre-back the time to integrate fully, understanding that initial performances might not reflect his true capabilities.

With support and time, Propper could well become a key player for the club, enhancing their defensive solidity and contributing to their ambitions.
