'Wonderful' gem now set to join Euro club on loan after Rangers transfer collapse - report

Southampton ace Samuel Edozie is set to join Belgian side Anderlecht after his failed Rangers move earlier in the window, according to Ben Jacobs.

The journalist reported this via X (4 September) and stated that his move to Glasgow fell through on deadline day.

After that twist, Edozie will now join Anderlecht on a season-long loan in order to gain some first-team experience away from St Mary’s.

Rangers should have signed Samuel Edozie

The player, described as “wonderful” by former boss Nathan Jones, would’ve been a valuable addition to Philippe Clement’s squad.

Despite everything seeming to be in order for the move, it collapsed on the final day of the window and resulted in the youngster not making the switch to Ibrox.

The Saints’ current manager Russell Martin blamed the collapse of the move on the Scottish club [Southern Daily Echo, 1 September] and even said that he was “gutted” Edozie didn’t get the chance to play for the Gers.

There were also some financial issues in the deal worth around £1million [the Sun, 31 August] that Rangers didn’t want to pay the newly promoted Premier League side.

The fact that the Gers chose against acquiring the services of the youngster is quite surprising, especially when you consider the fact that Todd Cantwell was sold the same day.

Edozie would have been able to offer another option on either flank for Clement and perhaps even improve the overall quality of the squad.

Things didn’t quite work out between the two so there’s no doubt that the Gers board will be hoping that their choice doesn’t come back to bite them in the future.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has shared that some members of the Gers’ board would be open to welcoming investors.
