Report: Ruben Amorim already wants to sign former Tottenham ‘wonderkid’ when he joins Man United

Manchester United are about to enter a new era.

Man United dismissed Erik ten Hag after his side suffered a late 2-1 defeat to West Ham at the weekend and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is about to be appointed by INEOS as his successor.

Ruben Amorim joins with a huge reputation having won the Portuguese league with Sporting Lisbon on two occasions during his four and a half year reign.

The 48-year-old is expected to implement a possession-based approach at Old Trafford and is already plotting his transfer business.

With that said, it’s just come to light that Amorim wants to sign a former Tottenham Hotspur academy star who’s now at Sporting.

Ruben Amorim wants Man United to sign Marcus Edwards

According to TEAMtalk, Amorim has already requested three players that he’d like to sign once he’s in post at Man United.

One of them is former Tottenham and current Sporting wide player Marcus Edwards, who is believed to have a £50m release clause in his contract.

The talented Englishman, who was once considered a ‘wonderkid’ per Football London, was let go by Spurs in 2019 but since then, he’s flourished in Portugal, netting 32 times whilst laying on 30 assists in the league.

Man United view Edwards as someone who could be really valuable to their squad and he may replace Antony on the right flank.

Amorim also wants Goncalo Inacio and Pedro Goncalves

The outlet further notes that Amorim has requested INEOS to sign centre-back Goncalo Inacio and attacker Pedro Goncalves.

Man United targeted Inacio during the summer window, so he’s already well-known by the club’s recruitment team.

Goncalves, meanwhile, has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs over the last two years.

Earlier this year, Aston Villa and Tottenham were showing an interest in Goncalves, so competition for his signature is expected to be rife.

If he were to join United, he’d likely be competing against Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for a starting spot.

Here are how their statistics compare.

Admittedly Goncalves is plying his trade at a lower level, but his statistics are far superior compared to the current left-wing options at Old Trafford, so perhaps he’d be an upgrade.

A telling January transfer window awaits Man United.
