Only one Rangers player 'not for sale', talks ongoing for teammate exits - report

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is the only senior squad player who is not for sale this summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The report (22 July) suggests that while the likes of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Scott Wright are all on the market, the Scottish giants aren’t quite as keen to see the back of Butland.

This comes despite reports that the club could consider a bid in excess of £10 million (Daily Record, 15 July).

Rangers to build around Butland?

Philippe Clement feels like the kind of straight-shooting manager who isn’t going to waste time. There have already been several departures at Ibrox this summer and if this report is to be believed, then we’re going to see a massive upheaval between now and the end of the window.

Alas, Englishman Jack Butland appears to be at the top of the list when it comes to players who don’t need to pack their bags. The 31-year-old appeared in all 38 Scottish Premiership games last season and while they may have wound up losing out to rivals Celtic, they only conceded 32 goals throughout the campaign – just two more than the champions (FBref).

When you’re trying to rebuild a team from the ground up, you need leaders who can withstand the pressure. Butland is an experienced, confident keeper and if he plays his cards right, then the best years of his career could still be ahead of him.
