'Tomorrow onwards...' - Rangers attacker's relative issues mysterious exit update as terms agreed

Ianis Hagi’s Rangers future could be cleared up imminently after a “mysterious reaction” from Gheorghe Popescu to SportpeSurse.

The former Romanian international told the outlet in his home country on 21 July that questions should be directed to the exit-linked Ibrox ace from the following day onwards.

Popescu is the former teammate of Hagi’s father Gheorghe as well as the Romanian legend’s brother-in-law [The Sun], but refused to divulge whether the current Light Blues player is about to join Fiorentina where SportpeSurse report he has already agreed personal terms.

Popescu said, translated to English: “If I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. I don’t think you should talk to me, but to Ianis. So you should talk to him, maybe from tomorrow onwards”

The fact that Popescu was recruited to report to the Romanian secret police during his playing career [Guardian] may account for the illusiveness of his response on Hagi’s future.

But he appears to have hinted that the Gers winger would be able to provide answers from Monday 22 July.

The 25-year-old is one of many players Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen need to move on to free up funds to make new signings so if a deal is imminent that would be a positive step.

The manager claims the board has told him he has to sell to buy [Rangers Review, 13 July] so shifting Hagi who has barely been seen in a Gers shirt for the best part of three years would be a good start.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has said he has to sell to buy.

The former Alaves loanee doesn’t seem to want to return to return to Ibrox [MARCA, 21 March] where his career was badly interrupted by a serious knee injury.

So it would be in all parties’ interest for a fee to be agreed with Fiorentina as soon as possible if he is happy to head back to his former club.

In other Rangers news, another prominent Light Blues player may have jetted out to discuss a transfer with a club who have the “financial muscle” to sign him.
