Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s proposed move to join West Ham has been delayed after an Inter Milan hijack, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that both clubs are pushing to get the deal over the line before the season begins on 16 August.
However, the player’s decision remains a stumbling block for the deal as Wan-Bissaka is said to prefer a move abroad amid interest from Inter Milan.
The final decision will rest with the player as negotiations continue between the clubs. United are looking to receive £15million from the deal, while the Hammers are offering closer to £10million.
Sources say a deal is expected to be reached between both parties soon, but Wan-Bissaka will take his time before committing to a deal with West Ham.
West Ham move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka delayed after Inter Milan twist
Wan-Bissaka made the switch to Manchester United from Crystal Palace in a move worth £50million in 2019, but has never been able to nail down a starting place at Old Trafford.
In five years at the club, the right-back has made 190 appearances, helping to win both the League Cup and FA Cup since Erik ten Hag arrived.
However, he made just 30 appearances across all competitions last season and only 22 of those came in the Premier League.
His ability on the ball and in attacking areas has been a concern for United, with Ten Hag looking to find a more natural attacking full-back for his system.
Football Insider revealed on 29 July that the club are in talks over signing Noussair Mazraoui, but the deal will hinge on whether Wan-Bissaka departs.
Wan-Bissaka is still expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, but talks with West Ham will have to convince him to make the switch despite interest from elsewhere.
The Hammers have already failed in an attempt to convince Mazraoui to join the club this summer prior to United opening talks, and do not want a repeat situation.
In other news, Crysencio Summerville had his medical at West Ham yesterday.
