This commitment was stressed when the IOC awarded the 2022 Youth Olympic Games to Dakar, Senegal, marking the first time the Games will be hosted on the continent.
IOC President Thomas Bach stated, “It is time for Africa… Africa is the home of many successful and prominent Olympic athletes. Africa is a continent of youth. There are many opportunities, and we will endeavour to deliver together, as part of a strong partnership, visionary, responsible, and inspiring Youth Games.”
