Clinton Morrison slammed Neal Maupay for his social media jibe at Everton after the loss against Nottingham Forest.
The Toffees were on the end of a 2-0 defeat against Forest on Sunday (29 December) which has left them sitting just three points above the relegation zone in 16th.
Maupay took no time to poke fun at the result of the game, despite still technically being an employee of the club until the end of the season when his loan deal to Marseille becomes permanent.
Speaking on the Football Daily Podcast (30 December, 27:02), Morrison criticised the striker’s actions as he said: “I don’t like that behaviour. No way. You can’t do that, you can’t.
“You’re still like, Everton are still your football club. I think that’s a bit out of order.
“But that’s Neal Maupay. He’s not going to listen to any of us.
“Even if he’s watching this, he’ll probably come back with another comment.”
Everton will be glad to be rid of Neal Maupay
Although things are sour between Everton and Maupay, his comments after the loss were a bit much and haven’t been received well since and reflected poorly on the player.
It seems as though the striker is after a bit of attention and the Blues have done well not to rise to it, even though their chances of punishing the player are unrealistic with his loan club reportedly paying his wages.
The Toffees are starting to look ahead to a new era at Goodison Park following the completion of the takeover by the Friedkin Group and therefore, when Maupay is no longer an Everton player in the summer, it will be a relief for many of Merseyside.
It was a disappointing loss for Sean Dyche’s side, although against a side who are in brilliant form at the minute. Nevertheless, the boss will be keen to put things right and prove he is the man for the job.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are eyeing a move for this Newcastle United star with a January exit likely.
