Tony Bellew believes supporters should be “forever grateful” for the job that Sean Dyche has done during his time as Everton manager.
At the moment, the 53-year-old is keeping the Toffees out of the Premier League drop zone once again as they currently sit 16th in the table.
Their 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday was their first loss in their last five Premier League games, which followed creditable draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, and a 4-0 rout of Wolves.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (30 December, 14:43pm), Bellew shared why he thinks fans should be thankful for the former Burnley boss.
“The Premier League try and make an example out of Everton football club by deducting us 10 points, that’s another disgraceful thing that’s happened, it’s just one thing after another but listen, were scousers and we’re super resilient,” he said.
“The job that Sean Dyche has done over the last few years, there’s no one in football that can tell me that job’s not absolutely fantastic what he’s done.
“I understand and get it [people wanting Dyche out] but you’ve got to understand that this man has played with one hand behind his back and the job he’s done, every Evertonian should be forever grateful”.
The Friedkin Group should keep Sean Dyche at Everton
Since The Friedkin Group assumed full control of the Merseyside outfit and even before the deal was officially confirmed, the future of Dyche has been brought into question.
A number of names have been linked with the Toffees’ hot seat and while nothing concrete has yet surfaced, it feels like the American businessmen would be wasting their time trying to recruit anyone else.
He’s kept the Blue half of Merseyside in the Premier League despite all the trials and tribulations he’s faced under Farhad Moshiri and it’s hard to see how a new manager would be able to do much different to what Dyche is doing.
Of course, his contract expires at the end of the term so if they do want to make a change, this season would likely be the best time for them to do so.
Only time will tell what the future holds but at the moment, the best man for Everton seems to be their current man at the helm.
In other Everton news, the Blues could seal a move for a Newcastle ace who has played 16 league matches this season.
