Pep Guardiola makes shock admission after heart-breaking Manchester defeat
Another torrid afternoon for Guardiola.
Pep Guardiola says he is ‘not good enough’ and ‘not doing well’ after Manchester City were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Premier League champions looked on course for three points at 1-0 up thanks to a Josko Gvardiol header on 36 minutes.
City were still ahead as the game closed in on the final whistle, but Amad Diallo won an 88th minute penalty which was converted by Bruno Fernandes.
Less than two minutes later Diallo got on the end of a long pass from Lisandro Martinez and found the back of the net himself, with United holding on for a famous 2-1 victory.
It is now one win in 11 matches for Manchester City in all competitions, with Guardiola’s side nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The Catalan was downbeat after the latest defeat, claiming that he may not be good enough to turn the slump around, despite winning the last four Premier League titles.
‘What we have to do is keep working, but I am the boss, I am manager and I’m not good enough, it is simple at that,’ Guardiola told a press conference.
‘I have to find a way to talk to them, to train them, the way we have to play, to press, to build up and I’m not good enough, I am not doing well, that is the truth.’
Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said of his teams ongoing struggles: ‘We are not, I would say, nice in the way we play. You know, before it was so fluid and now we struggled for different reasons.
‘Of course, for a lot of defeats, but we put everything, everything. The game was almost closed because except one chance from Bruno, that it was it
‘The rest, okay, they were a little bit more possession in the first half, but nothing special. But at the end we give away the two goals and it’s more difficult.
‘It is what it is, what can I say? It is not about this action of a player, or that, it is a tough season and it will be a tough season.
‘We did not play at our best today because in some positions we are not at our best, we struggled, but it is what it is.’
City are back in action on Saturday away to Aston Villa in the Premier League before hosting Everton on Boxing Day.
