Premier League approval of a John Textor takeover at Everton could take “far longer” to secure after any initial purchase is agreed with Farhad Moshiri, according to The Guardian.
Matt Hughes reported for the paper’s website on 10 September that the American is confident of reaching a takeover deal with the Toffees owner within a month but authorisation from the league authorities will not be anywhere near as simple, with his shareholding in Crystal Palace still unsold.
At Selhurst Park there is said to be a “boardroom standoff” in progress as negotiations with fellow Eagles investors Josh Harris and David Blitzer yet to produce a result and Textor’s offer to buy them out rejected.
Textor is the fifth bidder to enter into an exclusivity agreement with Moshiri following the Kaminski Group, MSP Sports Capital, 777 Partners and most recently Roma owner Dan Friedkin.

777 Partner’s doomed attempt to takeover at Goodison Park proved that getting Moshiri to agree to a deal is arguably the easy part, as the Miami-based firm failed to get league approval throughout last season.
Textor must be getting his confidence in a Toffees takeover from somewhere but while he still hasn’t found a resolution to his situation at Palace it is difficult to determine where.
Even if he gets the green light from Moshiri it seems likely that the league won’t be interested until he offloads his interests in South London.
Sky News reported on 26 August that the American has now received a pair of bids ready to purchase those shares quickly, but whether either would give him the profit he is said to be looking for [Guardian, 9 August] is unknown.
Assuming he does detach himself from any complicating factors at Palace the Lyon owner would still have far from a simple task once he tackles the situation on Merseyside itself.
That picture appears to be getting more complicated rather than less with the news that former sponsor Alisher Usmanov has taken legal action against Moshiri [The Athletic, 10 September], with some buyers said to be concerned about a takeover potentially falling foul of sanctions laws.
If that proves not to be an issue there still remains the “unresolvable” matters relating to current Everton debts which saw off Friedkin’s bid [The Esk, 20 July].
So while Textor certainly seems willing but whether he proves to be able might be another matter altogether.
