'Needless', 'Dawdling' - National media react to what 5/10 Everton star did last night

England media were unimpressed by Everton star Jordan Pickford’s display against Finland on Tuesday (10 September).

Pickford started between the sticks at Wembley as the Three Lions claimed a 2-0 victory in the UEFA Nations League.

However, despite keeping a clean sheet, the 30-year-old has come under fire after a mistake he made early on in the match.

He was handed a 5/10 rating by The Independent (10 September), which wrote, “Almost pickpocketed by Teemu Pukki in the early moments after taking a needless touch, on an otherwise quiet night.”

And the Guardian added (10 September), “Almost caught dawdling in possession in the first half. Did not have to make a save.”

As per the Evening Standard (10 September), “One hairy moment in possession early on, then did not have a save to make.”

Everton star Jordan Pickford not at his best for England

Pickford had a very quiet evening in goal for England. However, despite not having much to do, the Everton star still managed to get himself into a bit of bother.

Just like earlier this season against Spurs during the Toffees’ 4-0 thrashing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (24 August), Pickford demonstrated signs of vulnerability in possession.

That afternoon it cost him, with Son Heung-min robbing the England number one before scoring Tottenham’s second of the afternoon. However, he got away with a similar mistake for the Three Lions on Tuesday.

Sean Dyche will be hopeful that this is something which the shot-stopper can get out of his system.

Pickford has been a top performer for both club and country and isn’t likely to be dropped by either anytime soon.

However, if he continues to make mistakes of this nature, it could cost Everton as they look to remain in the Premier League this season.

In other Everton news, Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been name-dropped after recent John Textor plans came to light.
