PL club consider January move for Everton star, transfer value set to plummet - report

Newcastle United are considering reigniting their interest in Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin in January, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT journalist reported on Tuesday (1 October) that the striker’s value is expected to plummet in the new year as he enters the final months of his contract at Goodison Park.

Eddie Howe’s side have repeatedly been interested in signing the England international but were reluctant to pay the Toffees’ £40million asking price for his services during the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest that the Blues have offered Calvert-Lewin a new contract to extend his stay on Merseyside, but so far that deal remains unsigned by the forward [Liverpool Echo, 28 September].

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Newcastle United transfer rumours?

Calvert-Lewin’s situation has been looming in the background at Everton for a while now and it isn’t clear how this is going to play out between now and the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

The majority of supporters will be in agreement that they want to see the Englishman extend his stay at Goodison Park as he has become the Toffees’ most reliable and consistent source of goals under Sean Dyche’s management.

However, if the forward is not at all interested in remaining on Merseyside, January could well be the opportunity for the Toffees to cash in on his services before he walks away for nothing at the end of the season.

Although his valuation will have plummeted if he enters the final few months of his contract, the Blues should still be able to pocket a reasonable fee for his signature given his reasonable start to the season under Dyche.

Ultimately, this move will only be completed if Newcastle are willing to pay the sort of fee that Everton are looking for.

The Blues won’t benefit from selling one of their best players at a cut price and therefore will likely stand by their valuation when the window opens once again.
