Manchester United are readying their first bid to sign Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its website [13 June] that with the Toffees setting a £70million price tag on their prized defender, United are preparing for negotiations over a potential signing.

A defender is one of the key signings the Red Devils are hoping to make in the summer transfer window but will be keeping an eye on Profit and Sustainability margins as they target Branthwaite.

Everton to prepare for Jarrad Branthwaite departure as Manchester United ready bid

Evertonians must face the reality that they could lose their star 21-year-old defender this summer, with United preparing their first bid for him.

The centre-back has experienced an extremely impressive campaign with the Toffees, teaming up with Jordan Pickford and James Tarkowski to form the fourth-best defence in the league.

This, however, has caused many teams across Europe to sit up and take notice of the youngster, who some suggest would be unable to turn down a move to Old Trafford.

Despite the club’s current financial situation, having been handed two separate points deductions for PSR breaches this season, Everton are unlikely to budge on their estimation for Branthwaite.

The likes of Branthwaite and Amadou Onana have been linked with Goodison Park exits, mainly due to the financial strains at the club, but Branthwaite would be a massive blow if he were to leave this summer.

Of course, £70million would be hugely beneficial for the club, and it will be difficult to turn down any offer close to that number, but it remains to be seen if United will reach it or attempt to low-ball the Toffees.

Everton must remain strong on the current price tag placed on Branthwaite, though there is no telling how long these negotiations will go on for, with the summer transfer window not even open yet.

In other Everton news, a big-name manager could be appointed if Vatche Manoukian completes a takeover.
