Portuguese media now make fresh claim about Ruben Amorim to Manchester United with change in release clause

Ruben Amorim is looking likely to be the man Manchester United turn to after parting ways with Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was given his marching orders by the board at Old Trafford after another defeat at West Ham left them swilling in the bottom half of the table.

TBR Football revealed that Thomas Frank and Julian Nagelsmann were under consideration but further developments saw Sporting Lisbon’s Amorim emerge as frontrunner.

Initial reports suggested that Amorim was available for around £8.5million, but it has since been revealed that his release clause doubles in value for certain teams – one of those being United.

Ruben Amorim to cost Manchester United double than originally suggested

According to a report from the respected Portuguese outlet RTP Sport, Amorim is indeed tempted by the Man United job but it will come at a cost.

They report that Amorim’s release-clause is in fact closer to the £17m mark to certain foreign clubs and should he want to move inside of Portugal, it’s even higher.

Of course, that is much higher than anticipated, and TBR understands United could look to negotiate that down.

United are willing to pay big for a new manager but whether they go all the way to Amorim’s release, remains to be seen.

Further pushing the matter forward is journalist Pedro Sepulveda’s suggestion that Amorim has a ‘dream’ of coaching in the Premier League which is aiding his decision.

Amorim has been heavily linked with a move to England in the past, with both Liverpool and Tottenham casting admiring glances prior to bringing in Arne Slot and Ange Postecoglou.

The best cost money and United have to pay up

Changing manager mid-season is never going to be cheap in both directions and Man United now have to stump up or shut up.

The Red Devils have spent far too long treading water in the Premier League and if Amorim is the man INEOS want, then they have to go and pay.

Amorim is a young coach with a lot to prove but he comes with a big CV and reputation and United will hope he can have a similar impact to that of a Jose Mourinho or Mauricio Pochettino.

If not, then it’s back to the drawing board and yet another missed opportunity.
