‘Possibly’: Robbie Savage reckons £35m Liverpool player could play as a number 10 for Arne Slot

Liverpool beat Chelsea at the weekend to return to the top of the Premier League, and, once again, Ryan Gravenberch was one of the Reds’ top performers.

The Dutchman was in fine fettle for Liverpool against Chelsea at the weekend, and, once again, he’s drawn praise for his performance.

Speaking on BBC 606, Robbie Savage has hailed Gravenberch for his form so far this season, and he’s made an interesting claim about the £35m midfielder.

Indeed, according to Savage, Gravenberch has it all, so much so that he thinks the former Bayern Munich man has the ability to play as a number 10 if needed for Arne Slot’s side.

Ryan Gravenberch could play as a number 10

Savage spoke highly of Gravenberch alongside Chris Sutton

The pundit claimed that the Dutcman could play as either a number eight or a number 10.

This comes just weeks after Gravenberch was compared to Patrick Vieira for his performances in that number six role.

“He’s got the attributes, Chris, hasn’t he? He reads the game, he’s good on the ball, he’s athletic. He can be an eight, possibly he could be a ten, but I think in that six position, especially when you’ve got Curtis Jones next to you, who was absolutely sensational as well, I think it’s suiting him really well and I think that’s what Liverpool have missed,” Savage said.

Gravenberch’s position could change

Savage says that Gravenverch could play in a few different positions for Liverpool, and he may have to in time.

Indeed, Liverpool are still seemingly on the lookout for a new natural holding midfield player as Martin Zubimendi continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

If Liverpool can land Zubimendi, Gravenberch may have to move positions, but, as Savage says, he’s more than capable of playing in advanced positions.

The Dutch midfielder does seem to have found a home at the base of Liverpool’s midfield, but this time next year, if Liverpool get the signings they want, Gravenberch may have to reinvent himself once again.

Regardless, Liverpool are lucky to have a player with this sort of skillset and talent level, and maybe, just maybe, Gravenberch could help lead the Reds to a Premier League title this season.
