Postecoglou sack: Report shares when Tottenham could pull the trigger

Ange Postecoglou’s next four matches in charge at Tottenham will be “pivotal” for his future in North London, according to GiveMeSport.

The website reported [10 December] that the manager is facing mounting pressure from the passionate fans this season, with the team winless in their last four games in all competitions.

Spurs have an opportunity to gain momentum with an interesting Europa League tie against Rangers, Premier League games against Southampton and Liverpool, and an EFL Cup tie with Manchester United in between.

Postecoglou’s side face the Reds on Sunday 22 December at the Hotspur Stadium, which could now be his final in charge.

It is not totally surprising to see the pressure building on the Australian, with fans becoming frustrated with Spurs’ inconsistencies on the biggest stages.

Supporters were pleasantly surprised after smashing Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 4-0 last month, though this was following back-to-back defeats to Ipswich Town and Galatasaray.

With disappointing draws against AS Roma and Fulham, conceding late on in both games, before losing to Bournemouth and Chelsea, fans have every right to be frustrated.

However, Postecoglou produces some of the most entertaining football in the Premier League, and compared to some of the former managers in recent history, a sacking would seem harsh right now.

The biggest challenge would be to find a replacement who would work well with Daniel Levy and endear themself to the fanbase, something that Postecoglou has managed but some are now turning on him.

He has a real chance to prove himself to the fans, with clashes against teams of all qualities, but fans will be mostly focused on Man United and Liverpool. A loss to the Saints could be crucial though.

While Spurs are sitting 11th in the Premier League table, they are just five points behind 5th-place Nottingham Forest and are just three points away from topping the Europa League table.

Of course, some of the recent results have been a source of frustration in North London but it is clearly not all doom and gloom for the Lilywhites.
