Lilywhite Rose speculates RB Leipzig condition to take Timo Werner back from Tottenham early

Timo Werner would only be allowed to end his Tottenham loan spell early under one condition.

Werner was hooked at half-time in the 1-1 UEFA Europa League draw between Rangers and Tottenham at Ibrox on 12 December after his woeful display in the opening 45 minutes.

There is a good chance the German might never play for the club again after what Ange Postecoglou said post-match on Thursday, with the Australian criticised for his comments.

However, according to Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – RB Leipzig would only bring the forward back to the club in January if they had another loan move lined up for him.

“Leipzig are obviously very pleased for Werner to be off their books,” Wenham said.

“They wouldn’t have agreed to a second loan spell otherwise. Therefore, the only way he will return to the club in January is if they find another club willing to take Werner off their hands and cover his wages until the end of the season.

“Otherwise, there’s absolutely no chance of him returning any earlier.”

It looks as though Tottenham might be stuck with Werner until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old hasn’t exactly set Europe alight with his performances this term. Therefore, it is hard to imagine there will be too many clubs queueing up to take him on loan and cover his wages in January.

As a result, it looks as though Postecoglou might be forced to make do with the winger, for as long as the Australian remains at the club at least, with a Daniel Levy sack decision expected soon.
