Tottenham are increasingly likely to terminate their loan deal with Timo Werner after his performance against Rangers, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
BetIdeas have offered odds of 4/6 for Spurs to return Werner to his parent club RB Leipzig in the upcoming January transfer window.
On an evening when the North London outfit could only get a draw away at Rangers, the 28-year-old stood out for all the wrong reasons.
Postecoglou didn’t hesitate to criticise the forward either as he held back no punches in his post-match press conference, labelling the German as “unacceptable.”
BetIdeas spokesperson Lee Astley said: “Ange Postecoglou was less than complimentary about Timo Werner’s performance in Tottenham’s fortunate 1-1 draw against Rangers last night and the German forward could be set for an early return to parent club RB Leipzig next month.
“Tottenham are 4/6 to terminate Werner’s loan following another underwhelming spell in the Premier League for the ex-Chelsea man, while they are 6/5 to keep him until the end of the season.”
Tottenham exit on the cards for Timo Werner
It was no surprise that Postecoglou ripped Werner to shreds for his performance last night who was unable to provide anything for his side going forward or defensively and actually hindering his side.
The Australian manager opted to withdraw him from the action after half-time which shows that he had no faith in the German being able to do anything of note in the game.
Following the manager’s brutal comments after the game, it is clear that Werner will not be at the top of the list when it comes to future squad, with doubt over whether he will actually play for the club again.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see the striker return to Germany to his parent club, especially considering the pressure on Postecoglou at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.
Surely if the Australian wants to save his job in North London, he will have to make serious changes which would include axing anyone who does not align with the boss’ future visions for the club.
