Pape Matar Sarr could be handed a start for Tottenham when they travel to face Southampton on Sunday and he could provide the deciding factor as to whether Ange Postecogolou remains in a job.
Yves Bissouma was named in the starting XI for Tottenham in their 1-1 draw with Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday but a suspension will rule him out of their clash with the Saints on 15 December.
An exit has been tipped for Bissouma and with Sarr likely to be handed a starting role for Spurs on Sunday, he has not only a chance to stake a claim for his place in the side going forward but also an opportunity to sway any potential sack decision on Postecoglou.
Sarr has the chance to impress for Tottenham
Sarr has started just eight games in the Premier League for Spurs this season while making 15 total appearances in total but he has the ability to make Sunday’s encounter count, which could prove crucial to the future of Postecoglou.
According to FotMob, Sarr has recorded an impressive 86.7 per cent pass accuracy in league competition so far this season having completed a total of 385 passes.
His short passing ability is often crucial to keep ticking things over for Spurs although his long-range passing could potentially be improved.
Sarr has completed just eight long passes this season, with a 57.1 per cent accuracy recorded.
His close control when on the ball is often crucial in transition and with 18 fouls committed against him, opposition players struggle to get the ball off of him having been dispossessed just eight times.
His defensive stats are where the midfielder perhaps thrives the most with a 70.8 per cent win rate when it comes to completed tackles, with 17 won over the course of the season.
Sarr has won 59 ground duels which play a big role in when Spurs attempt to turn over possession and form a counterattack.
If the midfielder can put in a good performance if picked upon, it will put Spurs and Postecoglou in good stead going forward.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been told to get rid of one regular starter.
