Rangers will sell James Tavernier for 'nothing' as two big sales edge closer - McAvennie

Rangers are not expected to make much profit on selling either Connor Goldson or James Tavernier this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie explained that there are “only one or two” players who can command a fee right now at Ibrox Stadium.

Both defenders are close to leaving the club this summer and are rated at £10million combined by the Gers.

Football Insider revealed that Birmingham City are leading the race to sign Goldson despite several Saudi Arabian clubs being interested in the 31-year-old.

The Saudi Pro League also has interest in Tavernier, as the right-back’s future at Rangers is seen as “up in the air” currently.

Football Insider previously revealed that the 32-year-old could be set to reunite with former boss Steven Gerrard, as Al-Ettifaq have offered an “astronomical” package.

Rangers will struggle to make much money from summer sales

Philippe Clement recently claimed that everybody has a price at Rangers, casting question marks over the futures of every member of the squad.

However, that doesn’t mean that the Scottish giants will secure a large fee for everyone the club sells this summer.

“Every player’s got a price, but unfortunately there’s only one or two that’s going to get anything at Rangers,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“The goalkeeper’s [Jack Butland] the only one, but he never covered himself in glory at the weekend against Ajax.

“Butland’s the only one that’s going to get money for them.

“Goldson’s not going to get money, you’re not going to get money for Goldson; [a] couple of million?

“You’ll get nothing for Tavernier, [Todd] Cantwell; who’s going to buy Cantwell?

“I don’t know who they’re going to be selling; I’m being realistic.”
