Everton supporters can once again dream big rather than treading water following the major takeover news from Friday morning.
As reported by Sky Sports [13 December], the Premier League have finally approved the takeover deal which will see The Friedkin Group [TFG] acquire the 94.1 percent controlling stake in the club from Farhad Moshiri.
League approval had proven Everton’s undoing with previous takeover plans, but the green light has seemingly appeared and the takeover looks like it could be completed imminently.
The breakthrough comes not only in tidy time for the January transfer market to open, but sets the Toffees up on what many anticipate to be the right track to lift their ambitions once again.
Everton to return to Europe under Dan Friedkin?
Dan Friedkin leads the consortium to take over Everton and supporters have watched Roma with some intent over recent months due to their controlling interest in the Serie A giants.
TFG have shown themselves to be unafraid to make the big decisions which could spell one mood or the opposite from Sean Dyche, who has managed to keep a chaotic club in the Premier League since his arrival.
Survival must be achieved this season or all the ambitious plans are set back years. The move to Bramley-Moore Dock appears to be approaching at just the right time, as long as the Toffees get the job done on the pitch. It should happen, but there are no certainties.
In the short-term, January has been mentioned but it could even put a spring in the step of Dyche and the team, who need every inch of help they can get as they head to Arsenal this Saturday [14 December].
But for the future, and the fans on the blue half of Merseyside who have reminisced for far too long about the escapades in Europe of the mid-2000s under David Moyes, the ambitions of the ownership could be about to become far loftier. It’s time to start dreaming again.
In other Everton news, a former Manchester United coach names the Toffees as helping make a certain element of football an “art form”.
