Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for a fee of £17million during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

The Danish midfielder struggled to force his way into Ange Postecoglou’s side regularly last season, starting only eight Premier League matches despite making a further 28 appearances from the bench.

Reports have suggested Spurs are open to offers for the 28-year-old [talkSPORT, 30 May] and with Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray set to complete his move to North London [David Ornstein, 1 July], Hojbjerg may fall further down the pecking order.

While Hutton believes the Denmark international offers a different presence at the heart of Postecoglou’s side, he believes it would be best for all parties if he were to leave the Lilywhites permanently this summer.

“I think that’s a fair price,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He’s been used sparingly but I think he is a decent player if you need that combative midfielder who is going to get around the pitch.

“I just think sometimes with the way that Spurs play because they want to play with pace, moving the ball quickly to get high up the pitch and be aggressive I’m not 100 per cent sure he fits into that.

“We can see that by the amount of games that he plays, he only comes in as and when he is needed.

“For him to move on, I think that would suit him and I think that’s a decent enough fee for him.”

Will Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg exit Tottenham as Archie Gray nears summer transfer?

Hojbjerg has seen his role at Spurs reduced from the moment Postecoglou arrived in North London last summer as the Australian has a midfield partnership of Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma with James Maddison in an advanced role.

A combination of injuries and the African Cup of Nations has meant the Denmark international has still featured semi-regularly over the last 12 months, but with new additions incoming in North London, that could well change.

At 28 years old, Hojbjerg is likely not going to be keen on spending another year of his career routed to the bench. If the right offer is received by Spurs, it feels as though he will be eager to see the deal completed.

Most pundits and supporters seem to expect Levy and Tottenham to be willing to do business for the right price. The only question now is whether or not anyone will be willing to come in and match that valuation.
