Rangers consider loan exit for goalkeeper as multiple clubs now want deal - report

Rangers are considering loan moves for Jay Hogarth with multiple clubs interested in landing him, according to the Daily Record.

The outlet reported via their website’s transfer live-blog at 3.33pm on 1 July that the goalkeeper has suitors in Queen of the South, Arbroath and Kelty Hearts.

Hogarth, 20, is entering into the final year of his contract following a successful loan with Dumbarton last term.

He is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Light Blues but was also a regular for Alloa Athletic two campaigns ago.

Goalkeeper looks likely to be the position with the most focus on it throughout the summer at Rangers, from the top down.

While there was plenty of speculation around the potential for a big-money bid to tempt the club into letting star number one Jack Butland go it has so far been relatively quiet on that front.

On the contrary there have been multiple moves made below him, with second choice Robby McCrorie rejecting a contract extension and expected to leave [Daily Record, 4 June], while veteran third option Jon McLaughlin has been released at the end of his contract.

Liam Kelly has been brought back to the club on a free transfer after his exit from Motherwell as the presumed new number two, while a new contract has officially been signed by Mason Munn, potentially suggesting the 18-year-old might be the preferred choice to step up into the first-team picture.

Jack Butland, Rangers
Jack Butland has been a revelation for Rangers since arriving at Ibrox.

Kieran Wright is the next in line in terms of seniority behind McCrorie but is in a very similar situation having never played a senior game despite being 25 and a Gers player for his whole career, so could potentially leave too.

And Hogarth’s fellow youngster Jacob Pazikas has already made a loan move to Stranraer but it looks like there will continue to goalkeeper activity throughout the transfer window yet.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues now want to buy an ace they watched at Euro 2024.
