Pundit backs Levy to sanction exit for 'Outstanding' Tottenham ace if one condition is met

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will be willing to sanction Dejan Kulusevski’s exit if one condition is met this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

Ange Postecoglou has already added to his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season and reports suggest that he remains eager to sign at least one more winger in the coming weeks [TuttoJuve, 18 July].

Where that leaves Kulusevski remains unclear with reports suggesting rivals Aston Villa could be interested in bringing the Swedish international to Villa Park as a replacement for the outgoing Moussa Diaby [Football Transfers, 19 July].

Although Hutton believes the 24-year-old can still be an “outstanding” player for the Lilywhites, he thinks Spurs would be ready to sell him if they managed to sign another “quality” winger.

“Sometimes I’ve been on the fence with him,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I watch him sometimes and I think he is outstanding and then other games I’m not too sure but of course, he’s a technically gifted and talented player.

“I’m just thinking to really kick on and become that top four team that they really want to, I just feel that he missed a yard of pace. If he had that burst of acceleration then I think he would be right up there.

“It could be something that they might look into if they get a top quality player coming the other way that they feel is better or will enhance the squad, then it is something that they will look at.

“Even just sitting and talking about him I feel like I’m on the fence. Yeah, he’s a good player but I’m not so sure and that’s just how I feel when I talk about him.”

As Hutton suggests, Kulusevski has shown in flashes that he has what it takes to play week in and week out at the highest level, but he lacks the consistency of somebody like Son Heung-min.

If Postecoglou can bring a new winger to North London, whether that be Federico Chiesa or any other stars linked with a move, it would make sense for the Swede to explore his options in the transfer market.

The 24-year-old has been a consistent presence in the Australian’s side since he took over last summer, but there has been plenty of debate over what his best position is and where he should be starting matches.

Rather than attempting to shoehorn him in week in and week out, Tottenham may feel that now is the time to cut their losses.
