Pundit backs Man United man to fit in 'Seamlessly' under Ange as Tottenham eye transfer

Scott McTominay would fit into Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team “seamlessly” if he is to leave Manchester United, according to Alan Hutton.

Erik ten Hag has insisted he is eager to keep the Scottish international at Old Trafford this summer, but reports have suggested Galatasary and Premier League clubs are keen to secure his signature [Mirror, 21 July].

Reports from The Sun (18 July) suggest the Lilywhites are one of the sides interested in the 27-year-old and are aiming to beat Fulham to his signature should the Red Devils sanction his exit.

While Hutton believes it will take a fee upwards of £30million to tempt United into parting ways with McTominay, he does admit the Scotsman would be a cheaper alternative to Conor Gallagher.

“I think it would suit him,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“He’s high energy and that’s when you get the best of him. We’ve seen in Scotland games when he’s allowed to burst forward and allowed to get forward he can score goals, he can assist and he can close down.

“He wins the ball back high up the pitch and I think that’s what Ange likes. You see him do that a lot for Scotland, he doesn’t do that as much for Manchester United because he’s being asked to play a different type of way.

“They’ve got players at the top end of the pitch so they don’t really need him going forward.

“Fee-wise, it’s going to be £30million and above I would have thought, with the experience that he’s got, he’s still at a decent age, he’s got a lot of football in him and I think he gives you something else.

“We talk about Conor Gallagher and how much he’s worth, I know he’s a little bit younger to be fair, but Scott McTominay gives you the same kind of attributes as well.

“I think he would be a really good addition to an Ange team and would fit in seamlessly.”

Will Scott McTominay exit Manchester United amid Tottenham transfer speculation?

As Hutton suggests, McTominay does appear to possess all the attributes required to make him a success under Postecoglou if Spurs were able to strike a deal with United for his signature.

The Lilywhites could be in the market for a new midfielder following Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s summer move to Marseille, but the Red Devils may be reluctant to sell to a club that they will consider a top-four rival.

Hopefully, Daniel Levy and his recruitment team will be able to strike some sort of deal for the 27-year-old if Postecoglou is keen to bring him to North London as he would add a different dimension to Spurs’ midfield.
