Barry Ferguson has been mooted as the ideal candidate for the vacant academy director role at Rangers by Craig Moore.
The position at Ibrox remains vacant after Zeb Jacobs left at the end of last season and Moore believes Ferguson would be an “absolute perfect” fit.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show [21 November], the pundit added that the former Gers captain would provide so much value at academy level, having risen through the ranks at the club himself.
“For me, the perfect role for Barry Ferguson at Rangers Football Club would be the academy director”, Moore said.
“I think that’s an absolute perfect role for someone with the character of Barry Ferguson, someone that will know exactly what it takes to get from academy football to first-team football, the values, the understanding of the football club and would offer real stability.
“He would deliver that in so much value for the football club.”
Barry Ferguson mooted for Rangers role amid Philippe Clement uncertainty
Rangers are going through a period of uncertainty at the moment, with the club yet to appoint a permanent chairman and CEO.
Philippe Clement, meanwhile, is under increasing pressure in Govan after the team fell nine points behind Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership title race.
The Gers are reluctant to sack the 50-year-old as they are still without a chairman and a CEO, while Belgium, who are considering him as a replacement for Domenico Tedesco, are not willing to buy him out of his contract with the Glasgow giants [Ludo Vandewalle].
In the meantime, Nils Koppen has seen his responsibilities at the club increase after being appointed as the technical director this week.
The Belgian is tasked with, among other things, overseeing the academy and it remains to be seen if he would be tempted by the idea of bringing in someone like Ferguson to help him out.
Ferguson knows the Ibrox outfit in and out, having spent a significant amount of his playing career there, and it would make sense for him to be involved in some sort of behind-the-scenes role there.
In other Rangers news, this “exceptional” sensation could soon be on his way to the senior team after earning a new contract at Ibrox.
