Pundit reacts to 'Good News' after what's been said about McLean-Rangers latest

Carlton Palmer has expressed relief for Norwich City following the news that midfielder Kenny McLean’s potential move to Rangers appears to have fallen through.

McLean, who joined Norwich from Aberdeen in 2018 and has amassed 228 appearances, was reportedly a target for Rangers, but disagreements over contract terms halted negotiations [Rangers Review].

Despite McLean’s desire to play at Ibrox, Palmer believes Norwich’s asking price and McLean’s contract demands posed obstacles for Rangers.

Speaking to Football League World, the BBC Sport pundit said: “The midfielder would have brought some experience to a Rangers side that have signed a lot of young players, but reports coming out of Glasgow are that any potential deal is now off.

“This is due to the terms of the contract length because obviously if he’s going to move, he would want serious money and a decent contract length.

“Although McLean would have liked to have gone to Rangers, and it would have been special for him because he grew up being a Rangers fan and used to go to games with his Dad, a deal couldn’t be brokered and that can only be good news for Norwich.”

Rangers blow as Kenny McLean likely to stay at Norwich City

Facing the prospect of Kenny McLean staying at Norwich this season is a real blow.

McLean is a seasoned midfielder with a proven track record, and his potential move to Ibrox seemed like a perfect fit.

His experience, leadership qualities and eagerness to play for the Gers made him a highly sought-after target.

Staying at Norwich means the Light Blues will have to rethink their midfield plans and possibly look elsewhere for reinforcements.

McLean’s skill and understanding of the game could have been a significant asset, not just on the field but also in boosting team morale and connection with the fans.

Missing out on McLean is disappointing for the Gers, especially considering his desire to join and the potential impact he could have had.

It’s a setback they’ll need to address quickly as they aim for success in both domestic and European competitions next season.
