Sergio Reguilon has played his last game for Tottenham and Daniel Levy will sell him for around £15million after pre-season developments, according to Alan Hutton.

The left-back spent last season away from North London on loan with both Manchester United and Brentford, but the Bees were not able to afford his wages to make his stay permanent [The Athletic, 18 April].

Along with Bryan Gil, Reguilon has not travelled with Ange Postecoglou’s first team for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea as Spurs allow him to explore any potential transfer opportunities [Fabrizio Romano, 22 July].

Although it isn’t yet clear where the 27-year-old will end up this summer, Hutton believes the “writing is on the wall” for Reguilon and expects him to move on before the new Premier League season gets underway.

“I would say so,” Hutton exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Whatever first team players that have left behind, the writing is on the wall. I don’t mean people who are injured and stuff, I mean the players who are physically fit, ready to go and have been left behind.

“You usually feel that those are the ones who will be moving on. He went to Manchester United which I don’t where that came from and then went to Brentford and you can see there’s definitely a player in there.

“We know he’s a talented player, but he’s not going to play in front of Destiny Udogie at all in my opinion and you’ve got Micky van de Ven who can fill in over there as well.

“Ange has got options, so if they could get upwards of £10million for him, maybe £15million at this time I think they would be happy and I think he would move on.”

Will Sergio Reguilon exit Tottenham amid summer transfer rumours?

As Hutton suggests, whenever Udogie is fit, he will be Postecoglou’s first choice at left-back. Even if Reguilon was set to stay in North London his first-team minutes would have been incredibly limited because of the Italian defender.

Ultimately, this transfer has just never quite worked out for Spurs or the defender himself and now feels like the perfect time to part ways, even if the Lilywhites have to take a financial hit first.

Hopefully, the 27-year-old’s agent will be able to find him a move away from North London sooner rather than later after his pre-season snub.

Spurs will want him off the wage bill as quickly as possible and he will want to be at a club where he is actually involved in first-team operations so it is in everyone’s interest to get this done quickly.
