Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been told to lower his asking price for Emerson Royal by Alan Hutton amid transfer links with AC Milan.

The 25-year-old defender has been unable to have a consistent impact under Ange Postecoglou this season, starting only 11 games in the Premier League having fallen behind Pedro Porro in the Australian’s pecking order.

Reports from Fabrizio Romano (14 May) suggest that the Brazilian could leave this summer, with Serie A giants AC Milan keen on securing his services, but reports in Italy [La Gazzetta dello Sport, 10 May] suggest Spurs want at least £25.7million (€30million).

While Hutton admits that he believes Tottenham will accept a reasonable offer should it arrive for Emerson this summer, he believes the Lilywhites’ current valuation may not be appreciated by other clubs.

“I know some of the fees nowadays are large, but that is a big one,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“I’ve never really got that feeling from him that he is going to be a solid 8/10 week in and week out, even though he does give you something going forward.

“When I first saw the clips of him before he signed I thought he would be a hit because he was an attacking fullback and that’s what Spurs expect.

“But again, he’s somebody that if they could get decent money in for, they would take it.

“However, I still think £30million is too large a number.”

Will Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou sell Emerson Royal to AC Milan this summer?

Emerson has quite quickly become little more than a rotation option under Postecoglou, thanks in part to the excellent form of Porro who is arguably one of Spurs’ most important players at this moment in time.

While the Brazilian has been called into action in a variety of positions this term, he hasn’t ever looked at the level to play week in and week out, particularly against Liverpool where he struggled to get near Mohammed Salah.

With Postecoglou already suggesting he wants to make wholesale changes to the squad when the summer window opens, it would be best for everyone involved if an agreement could be reached as soon as possible.

When the price is set at £30million, that seems unlikely to happen. Somebody is going to have to budge to get this deal over the line and you would be surprised if Milan changed their stance.
