Patric Ridge doesn’t believe that Sean Dyche will be sacked at Everton but has admitted that some sort of “change” is needed at the club soon.
Dyche’s future has been under plenty of scrutiny since the start of the season and although things have got better recently, some question marks still remain.
Speaking to BBC Radio Merseyside (11 November), Opta deputy editor Ridge shared his thoughts on what lies ahead for Dyche.
“It’s seven league wins in 2024 now [for Everton], you’ve got to take it all into account,” he said.
“Yes one defeat in eight, put in that perspective, I don’t think Sean Dyche is going to get sacked and if he did he could point to that one defeat in eight and say ‘look what more do you want me to do?’.
“But you put it over a longer run, seven league wins since December last year and two league wins this season, I’m not necessarily saying there needs to be a change but something within the squad there needs to be more to give there”.
Sean Dyche Everton future is on thin ice
Everton may not find themselves in the relegation zone at the moment as they currently sit 16th in the Premier League but they only have a three-point cushion before they enter the drop zone.
The Toffees’ start to the 2024/25 season was beyond abysmal and set them off on a poor run of form but things should have had enough time to recover and be turned around by now.
And, with The Friedkin Group’s takeover now imminent, it’s getting to crunch time for the future of the former Burnley boss.
Once Dan Friedkin takes control of the club, as shown by his track record at Roma, he’s rather unforgivable when it comes to underperformance from his managers.
Unless Dyche can find a way to get players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin firing, it could spell the premature end of his Goodison Park tenure.
Things need to improve soon otherwise the Merseyside outfit could get dragged into yet another relegation dogfight this term.
In other Everton news, a claim has been made about Jarrad Branthwaite going to the 2026 World Cup.
