Fiorentina have approached Tottenham to sound out the conditions of a move for Radu Dragusin, Tutto Mercato reports.
According to the Italian news outlet’s website [15 December], Fiorentina are eager to bring the defender back to Italy and have made a concrete approach to Spurs.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of intense scrutiny in North London while deputising for the injured Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but that hasn’t deterred the interest of Serie A sides ahead of the January transfer window.
Juventus are believed to be interested in bringing the centre-back to Turin on loan, but will face stiff competition from Napoli and now Fiorentina for his signature [La Gazzetta dello Sport].
Tottenham cannot afford to lose Radu Dragusin
The Romanian international has been thrown into the deep end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and now the defender could look for a swift Premier League exit.
Even in the 1-1 draw against Rangers in the Europa League, Dragusin could not escape his critics – Spurs were overrun at Ibrox in one of the worst performances of the Ange Postecoglou era, and yet, the centre-back was singled out.
Once Van de Ven and Romero return to the first-team fold, Dragusin will undoubtedly return to his duties as a bit-part player in North London, but the absence of his teammates could drastically affect his future.
Tottenham cannot afford to part ways with the Romanian, despite claims the Premier League is “too much” for him; therefore, a return to Serie A, where he made his name at Genoa, is unlikely to materialise midway through the campaign.
However, consistency is all that prevents a remarkable turnaround for Dragusin at Spurs – he can perform to an elite level on his day, as proven in the 5-0 win against Southampton on Sunday [15 December].
He also started the 4-0 win against Manchester City at the Etihad, keeping the likes of Erling Haaland quiet in his own backyard.
Regardless, Tottenham will not sanction a January exit for the defender and he will be forced to bide his time in North London and perhaps stake a claim for a long-term berth in the first team once the regular starters return from their respective injuries.
