Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers could now quit Ibrox as Philippe Clement has changed his stance on him, according to Soccernet.ng.

The news outlet reported on 6 December that the Belgian, whose own future is under scrutiny [TEAMtalk, 26 November], does not see the Nigeria striker as an important part of his plans.

This comes after the 29-year-old played 54 games in all competitions last season, scoring 22 goals and providing nine assists.

Making a definitive decision on Dessers’ sale at this juncture might be premature, especially with Clement’s future at Ibrox being uncertain.

Dessers has been a key player, contributing significantly with 22 goals and nine assists last season.

If Clement’s stance leads to the 29-year-old’s departure, it would imply that the board is firmly behind the Belgian’s vision for the team.

Such a move could be seen as a vote of confidence in the manager, despite his own precarious standing.

However, this could also backfire if Clement were to leave or if his tactics do not yield the desired results, leaving Rangers without a key striker who has proven his worth in front of goal.

Selling Dessers in January without signing someone better will be a bad move and one that needs to be avoided.
